Bill is the titular main antagonist of the Kill Bill series. He is a crime boss and the arch-enemy of his ex-lover, Beatrix Kiddo, who wants to kill him for ruining her life.
What makes him sympathetic?[]
- Bill never knew his real father.
- He grew up under the care of Esteban Vihaio and the two became attached.
- He regards Hanzō katanas and Pai Mei as mentors and father figures.
- At some point Bill fell deeply in love with Beatrix Kiddo. In flashback scenes he is shown enthralling his lover with the tale of Pai Mei and offers her heartfelt warnings not to anger the cantankerous old master, so that she wouldn't end up in trouble.
- When Beatrix leaves him and fakes her death to escape, Bill is heartbroken by the revelation. When he orders the massacre of Beatrix and her wedding guests, he still tries to suppress his anger in an attempt to end their relationship on a friendly note.
- When Beatrix survives, he orders his subordinates not to harm her while she is in coma because he feels regret over his actions and out of sense of honor.
- When he sees how badly Sophie had been mutilated, he expresses remorse over it.
- Bill takes care of his daughter and genuinely loves her.
- He cares about his younger brother, Budd, and even gives him a sword engraved with the words "To the only man I ever loved - Bill." to defend himself from Beatrix.
- When Beatrix confronts him at first he tries to reason with her. Later, when she kills him he is not angry at her and still loves her. The two of them forgive each other and smile because they still love each other.
