Warmaster Horus Lupercal is a posthumous antagonist in the tabletop sci-fi game Warhammer 40,000. He is one of the twenty Primarchs created by the Emperor in the earliest days of the Imperium, just after the end of the Age of Strife.
What makes him sympathetic?[]
- He genuinely loved his genetic father, the Emperor, and on one occasion he even saved his life from an Ork.
- He genuinely believed in the Emperor's cause and wanted to ensure that humanity would become the dominant species in the milky Way galaxy.
- During the crusades, Horus tried to spare the innocent from unnecessary bloodshed as much as possible.
- During one battle Horus was wounded by a Chaos-tainted blade which started corrupting his soul. This accident was engineered by Erebus in order to corrupt Horus to the side of the Dark Gods and start the Horus Heresy.
- Erebus further manipulated Horus by showing him supposed visions of the future where the Emperor would be victorious but Horu himself would be cast aside and his achievements would be forgotten.
- After the Emperor defeats Horus, his soul is cleansed from the corruption of Chaos. Horus feels so much remorse for his past actions that he begs his "father" to kill him, so that he wouldn't be used as a vessel for the Chaos Gods again.
