What Makes Him Sympathetic?[]
- As horrible as his crimes are they were motivated by genuinely good intentions and he does make a valid point that his actions might have been considered necessary if supply ships hadn't arrived earlier which he could not have reasonably foreseen.
- It's hinted heavily in his conversation with Kirk that he does feel some remorse for his actions.
- He loves his daughter Lenore and wants to raise her to be a good person.
- He's horrified when he learns Lenore has become a murderer and gives his own life to save Kirk, not wanting more innocent blood on his hands.
