Kylo Ren, real name being Ben Solo, is one of the main antagonists of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. he is the archenemy of Rey Skywalker and the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa. Initially he desires to become a powerful Dark Force user just like his grandfather, Darth Vader, but then he follows in his footsteps and redeems himself.
What Makes Him Sympathetic?[]
- He was manipulated by Snoke from afar into joining the Dark Side of the Force.
- His uncle contemplated killing him which emotionally devastated Ben Solo. This was the final straw that pushed him into the Dark Side.
- The other reason why Ben Solo joined the Dark Side was also because of his parents' tumultuous relationship. His dad was a smuggler and his mom was a politician and was very busy.
- He suffers from insecurities that he is not as powerful as his grandfather, Darth Vader, and wants to prove himself.
- He is verbally abused by Snoke whenever he fails which also adds to his insecurities.
- When he meets with Rey Skywalker, Kylo Ren falls in love with her and doesn't want to kill her but instead wants her join him as his apprentice.
- Even though he ends up killing his father, Kylo Ren is really conflicted about it and cries after doing the deed which shows that he has humanity.
- During one of his battles against the Resistance, Kylo Ren senses that his mother is on one of the ships. He thinks about blowing her up but ultimately couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger because of his feelings for her.
- When Snoke wants to kill Rey, Kylo Ren kills his former master in order to save her and then makes her another offer to join him.
- After his final battle with Rey, he is mortally wounded. Rey takes pity on him and heals him and as a result Kylo Ren feels gratitude towards her.
- Kylo Ren then speaks with the Force ghost of his father and the two of them reconcile and Kylo Ren becomes Ben Solo once again and joins the Light Side.
- Ben Solo goes to aid Rey against Palpatine, ultimately redeeming himself. When Rey dies, Ben sacrifices his own life force in order to bring her back from the dead. The two of them smile and each other and kiss and Ben accepts his death, knowing that he has saved Rey's life and redeemed himself.
