Namaari is the main antagonist of Disney‘s fifty-ninth full-length animated feature film Raya and the Last Dragon.
She is the warrior princess of the Kumandra region named Fang who desires to return home from her past greatness, which led her in her youth to take part in a high-profile betrayal to seize a magical Gem that released a dangerous creature named Druun into the world. Six years after her misdeeds, Namaari now tries to reunite the pieces of the Gem by all means, which put her in conflict with her former friend-turned-arch-nemesis-turned friend again, Raya, as well as the last dragon, Sisu.
What makes her sympathetic?[]
- She cares deeply about her clan and her mother.
- Even though she manipulated Raya in order to steal the Dragon Gem, their friendship is still genuine.
- She wanted to steal the Dragon gem because her kingdom experienced a lot of problems and she wanted to fix them.
- Namaari's ultimate goal is to save the world from the Druun that she accidentally unleashed by trying to steal the Dragon Gem.
- Even though she accidentally killed the dragon, Sisu, Namaari later feels deep remorse about it.
- Namaari mourns her mother when she is turned into stone.
- She redeems herself by coming to aid Raya and her friends against the Druun.
- Namaari tries to save Raya and her friends from their fate of being petrified and this final act of selflessness saves the entire world.
- Namaari reconciles with Raya and her friends, apologises to Sisu and she is accepted.
- Some time later along with everyone else, Namaari bows to show that the people of Kumandra are united once more at the meeting at the Heart.
