Reiner Braun is the secondary antagonist of the anime/manga series Attack on Titan. He serves as a supporting character, though a secret antagonist, throughout the series, being the one who organized all the Titan attacks in the first season and volumes.

He serves as the main antagonist of the Prologue arc, a supporting character in the 104th Training Corps arc, both a supporting character and secretely the main antagonist of the Battle of Trost District arc and The Female Titan arc, a major character of the first half and the main antagonist of the second half of the Clash of the Titans arc, one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Bertolt Hoover) of the Return to Shiganshina arc, the main protagonist of the Marley arc and a major character in the War for Paradis arc. He is the arch-nemesis of Eren Yeager.

He is a Marleyan Warrior and the true identity of the Armored Titan, having infiltrated the military of the Walls as a spy, as part of a plot to eradicate the remainder of the Eldian kingdom on Paradis Island, and the childhood friend of Bertolt Hoover. He is of both Eldian and Marleyan ancestry, son of the Eldian woman Karina Braun and an unnamed Marleyan man. He is also a cousin to Warrior candidate Gabi Braun, and a major mentor figure for her fellow candidate, Falco Grice.

Throughout the first season and the first half of the second season, Reiner rarely acted like his true self. His persona of a "big brother" to his comrades was nothing but an imitation of his deceased friend Marcel Galliard, causing him to suffer from a multiple personality disorder, which is no longer shown after leaving the Eldian military.

In Japanese, he is voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya, whom also voices Wave. In English, he is voiced by Robert McCollum, who also voices Donquixote Doflamingo in One Piece and Stain in My Hero Academia.

What makes him sympathetic?[]

  • Reiner was forced to believe that Paradis Island is the Island of Devils since his childhood, despite him being an Eldian in Marley himself.
  • Reiner was pressured to be a Marleyan Warrior by his mom, hoping that them would have a better life with his father.
