Renwick Smith is a recurring character in the Ace Attorney fan game The Contempt of Court. He is a detective who was forced to cover up the crimes of a serial killer.
What Makes Him Sympathetic?[]
- For his first case as a detective, he was tasked with running an investigation on Vex Vulper's courtroom assault on Erol Brisbane. During which, he stole the enigmium playing card from the crime scene and gave it to a furious Brisbane in order to calm him down and because he believed that it was rightfully his. This, combined with finding a third victim of a serial killer named "The Boogeyman", led said serial killer to contact Renwick to find out where the enigmium was. Despite being threatened with either being killed himself or framed for murder, Renwick kept his silence, believing that Brisbane was a sitting duck if The Boogeyman learned he had it.
- However, The Boogeyman decided to spare Renwick, believing that he'd crack eventually and forced the detective to watch and clean up after his murders. This went on for five years, with The Boogeyman claiming four more victims.
- It didn't matter in the end, as The Boogeyman eventually tried to kill Brisbane and ended up beating him severely, of which he tried to pin the blame on Renwick for.
- While, he's a bit of jerk, his only real crimes were cover up, which he was forced to do in order to protect himself and Brisbane. This makes it questionable if he could even be considered a villain or not.
- His friendship with Brisbane is genuine.
