Rob, briefly known as Dr. Wrecker, is the main antagonist of the Cartoon Network animated sitcom The Amazing World of Gumball. Initially a minor background character, he was banished from reality and into the Void for being an anomaly in the show's universe. When he escaped, he sought vengeance against Gumball for his abandonment and to reclaim his place in the world.
He was voiced by Charles Philipp. As Dr. Wrecker, he was voiced by the late David Warner. In his Superintendent Evil disguise, he was portrayed by Garrick Hagon.
What Makes Him Sympathetic?[]
- His backstory is tragic, as he was deemed too insignificant of an entity to exist within the universe, and was subsequently banished into the Void when everyone forgot about him. When he called out for help from Gumball and Darwin during their entry, they didn't notice, forcing him to escape precariously, which disfigured and deconstructed his body into a broken and glitching form.
- His hatred for Gumball is somewhat understandable, as he was mistreated by him to a degree prior, and he inadvertently ruined his life.
- He experiences existential crisis about living in a simulated universe. He is also insecure about feeling like a "nobody."
- He is a villain by proxy, as it was seemingly the only way to justify his existence within the show's universe as there was no other role left for him to play.
- He tried to save the characters from the Void's destruction of the universe, but he ultimately failed after being antagonized in the process, falling into the Void while it began it's obliteration.
