Harvey Dent, later known as Two-Face, is the secondary antagonist of The Dark Knight. As a district attorney to Gotham City Harvey dedicated himself to ridding Gotham of criminals. He was later driven insane with grief and decided to exact revenge on the people he believes have wronged him.
What makes him sympathetic?[]
- As a district attoney, he was highly idealistic and wanted to rid Gotham of criminals, even risking his own life in the process.
- He was deeply in love with Rachel to the point where her dead drove him insane with grief.
- During one of his encounters with the Joker, half of his face was horribly burned which made him even more depressed.
- Harvey was manipulated by the Joker, who prayed on his grief and rage, into becoming a murdering vigilante called Two-Face.
- All of his killings were entirely caused by his desire to avenge Rachel's death.
- At one point, Harvey spares the life of a female cop after she tells him that she needed the bribe she took for her sick mother. This shows that Harvey still has some humanity left even after becoming Two-Face.
