Zaheer is the one of four main antagonists of the animated television series The Legend of Korra (alongside Amon, Unalaq and Kuvira), the sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender. He serves as the main antagonist of "Book 3: Change" and a minor anti-hero/the overarching antagonist in "Book 4: Balance". He is the third major threat faced by Avatar Korra.
What makes him sympathetic?[]
- He genuinely loves his girlfriend, P'Li, and he saved her from becoming an assassin for a warlord.
- He is well-intentioned and genuinely believes that world peace and balance can only be achieved through chaos. He also possesses honor, wisdom, or compassion.
- He genuinely cares about his comrades and used his powers to release them from their imprisonment.
- When Zaheer earned the compliment of being a leaf from Meelo because of his abilities, he returned the courtesy by bowing respectfully toward the child, saying that a student was only as good as his master.
- When Korra confronts Zaheer, he allows her to ask any questions about his motives which shows that he has a sense of honor and respect for his opponent.
- When Queen Hou-Ting demands to know the location of the airbenders, Zaheer refuses to comply even to he is threatened with imprisonment or death if he refuses.
- He cares about the freedom of the people and despises the Queen for trying to take it away.
- His girlfriend is killed before his eyes and this affects him.
- When he hears about the atrocities committed by Kuvira, he expresses regret for unintentionally causing her rise to power by killing the Earth Queen and offers to help Korra and guide her in her attempt to enter the Spirit World and cure her PTSD.
